By the end of this Mini Lesson, students will be able to use a semicolon to...
- connect the two parts of a compound sentence.
- connect two sentences joined by transitional words.
- separate sentences that contain multiple commas.
Students will also be able to use a colon to...
- introduce a list of items.
- separate the hour and minutes in the time of day.
- end the greeting of a business letter or email.
Finally, students will recognize correct punctuation usage in 10 sample sentences.
The Using Colons and Semicolons, Full Version, comes with a word search and a crossword puzzle. Additionally, all "Free Trial" stamps have been removed.
With the presentation itself and both puzzles, an entire class period will be needed to complete all of the activities.
