Like a mad scientist, Durham disappeared into his metaphorical laboratory of crime, only to resurface as Tampa's most notorious, White-collared crime figure of his generation to ever blaze the streets of Hillsborough county, and others. He became wealthy with the mere stroke of a pen. The old-schoolers called it "Hanging paper", meaning bad checks. Interviewees came out to tell the story of the brains behind the "Underground Circuit", which was the crew Durham ran with. He wanted to live a life of crime without killing and in the process he rearranged his criminal profile to out-wit cops and even the local politicians who set sleazy entrapments. Durham's strange "career" changed law enforcements concept of low-level crime.
